Rae Black: Educator, Coach, and Advocate for Higher Education Through Athletics

Hello! I’m Rae Black, a passionate teacher, coach, and mother dedicated to empowering young people to pursue higher education through their athletic abilities. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communication with an emphasis in Journalism from HBCU Oakwood University, as well as a Master’s degree in English and a Graduate Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Grand Canyon University. These educational milestones have provided me with a solid foundation for my teaching career. I have a son currently plays football and earned his scholarship at North Park University. I am also certified cosmetologist and cosmetology educator by trade.

I am entering my fourth season coaching varsity girls' flag football, during which I have established lower-level divisions to help grow the sport. I’m proud to have led my team to become the 2023 Spring Girls Flag Champions. My commitment to advancing opportunities for young athletes includes spearheading efforts to get flag football recognized by the AIA and pioneering the U of A tournament partnership, which has established an annual summer tournament.

My Goal

I have received several accolades, including the MLK Award from the City of Chandler for girls’ flag football and a nomination for BJ Media Coach of the Year. My work has been recognized through grants from the Cardinals and USA Football, and I’ve enhanced athletes' visibility in sports through social media.

Additionally, I have partnered with organizations such as Fiesta Bowl Camps and Game Time Football, joining the USA Football affiliation to help young athletes gain national recognition. My goal is to create pathways for all young people to achieve higher education through their passion for sports!
